Ingredients

For Wontons

  • 1/2 block medium firm tofu crumbled
  • 1/2 cup green onions chopped
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 pinch Chinese 5 spice
  • Dumpling wrappers
  • Water to seal wrappers

For Spicy Sauce

  • 3 tbsp chili oil
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 4 garlic cloves chopped
  • 2 green onions chopped
  • 1 tsp hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 tsp gochujang paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp black sesame seeds optional

Instructions

For Wontons:

  • In a bowl, mix crumbled tofu, chopped green onions, black pepper powder, salt, and Chinese 5 spice.
  • Place a small amount of the tofu mixture onto the center of each dumpling wrapper.
  • Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water and fold in half, sealing the edges to form a wonton shape. Continue until all wrappers are filled.

For Spicy Sauce:

  • Heat chili oil and sesame oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add chopped garlic and sauté until golden brown.
  • Stir in chopped green onions, hoisin sauce, gochujang paste, sugar, soy sauce, and rice vinegar.
  • Simmer the sauce for a few minutes until it thickens slightly. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  • Serve the wontons with the spicy sauce drizzled over the top, and garnish with black sesame seeds if desired.
